The Journey Behind My Shine

This year we are celebrating 10 years since Jessica’s memoir, The Journey Behind My Shine was published. A memoir about inhabiting a medically complex body and learning to move through the world with care. It reflects on resilience, belonging, and the lifelong practice of coming home to oneself.

Jessica Zacharias is a writer, movement guide, and founder of Seaworth Wholeness Sanctuary — a private studio devoted to embodied healing, intuitive living, and the art of returning to oneself. Her work lives at the intersection of movement, language, and inner listening, where the body is honored as both teacher and storyteller.

Through dance, somatic exploration, and reflective writing, Jessica supports individuals in reconnecting with their innate wisdom and cultivating a sense of wholeness that is rooted, gentle, and sustainable. She believes movement is more than expression — it is a medicinal practice, a way of metabolizing experience, and a language through which the body reveals truth. In the same way, words become vessels for integration, offering shape and meaning to what is felt but not always spoken.

Born with a rare birth defect and shaped by a lifetime of medical intervention, Jessica learned early on to listen closely to her body and move at the pace her life required. This lived experience informs her approach as both teacher and writer: one that honors nuance, respects limits, and recognizes healing as nonlinear. Her work invites people away from urgency and performance, and toward presence, self-trust, and embodied choice.

As a writer, Jessica explores the tender and often unspoken layers of being human — belonging, grief, becoming, and the quiet transformations that occur when we choose to come home to ourselves. As a movement guide, she creates spaces where people are encouraged to move honestly rather than perfectly, to follow sensation rather than expectation, and to reconnect with the intelligence already living within their bodies.

Seaworth Wholeness Sanctuary was created as a place for pause — a space where movement and language meet as ritual, where intuition is welcomed, and where wholeness is not something to be achieved, but something to be remembered. Through her writing, teaching, and offerings, Jessica invites others into a slower, more intimate relationship with their bodies, their stories, and their lives.
